Bio Project Reflection
There were many methods I used to be finished with my project such as working on a certain amount each day. I used venngage which was very useful and easy to work with. I used my time wisely and created a project that I am proud of. Probably two of the most significant things i did during this project were creating the essay about female mountain goats because it is something that needs to be spoken about even though it is not a huge deal. We need to protect the parts of our environment that we do not necessarily see everyday. Another very significant thing was the design I used to make it as nice as possible. For the success of the project I did a lot of editing. Mostly for our essay because we rushed through it since we had to get another question. I came to a few difficulties along the way and my group did as well. The first question we found had absolutely no data whatsoever so we continued to find another. After we got one Tina helped us by finding a PDF full of data and we were quickly able to whip out the paragraph. I had one of the harder questions in a sense that there wasn’t much information on it, so a few of our points in the essay were not as long as some of the others. Yet it was still quite strong. With my infographic I had a few issues that made it hard for me to edit. But after I figured it out it was easy and somewhat fun to make. The information I used I just got out of our paragraph with some that I looked up. I definitely came to the conclusion during this project that I am a procrastinator and I have lots of issues with getting started. Whereas at the end of the project I finished it and felt pretty good. During the research process I found out that female mountain goats are going extinct. So I learned a lot even from just our question. To improve results I would work more in class and try to be less distracted. I was sick for part of the project as well and that was not very helpful or ideal. Through this I learned how to make an infographic and I am sure that will be very helpful for my future whether I need it for a job or just in the rest of my school years. I definitely feel like having the knowledge of using venngage would have made my creating an infographic easier. My learning style is more of a hands on experience. When I am on the computer I have a harder time learning because I think better when I can write everything down and stare at it until I understand. On the computer it is much different because I have a keyboard and a mouse and I cannot write it out or draw it how I see things as I am being taught. In the future I would do it pretty much the same way because I feel like I am trying to find a way that I can use my computer and still understand.
Movie Project Reflection:
Purpose:
The purpose of this project was to create a movie, as a whole class, about DNA, genotypes, etc. In the beginning we split up our class into two groups. One being script writing and the other set design and props. This allowed us to work in groups as well as be more productive in the process. As an individual I met the purpose of the project because I participated in the creation of the entire movie. I played a role in the movie as the main character and had to learn lines as well as figure out mics and help support the process. As a whole class we worked really well together. We continued to solve problems and work as a whole day after day. Tina allowed us to have a lot of freedom to come up with a final project. Working together each day was really fun too, I think we all worked a little harder because we were all depending on each other.
Warm Feedback:
Throughout the project, personally, I came up with a lot of creative ideas on how to film the project and how to explain some of the lines without being super cheesy. I think I worked hard to know and learn my lines although it was hard because the script was changing throughout the entire movie, shortening it or adding more scientific facts. I feel like I got us to hustle a little bit when the set up or filming or mics were taking too long. As a class we worked together well. We were all able to contribute and be able to take others ideas into consideration. The whole class was able to participate in some part of the movie. Everyone was busy almost all the time. We were all very diligent about the tasks we had. If somebody was off task somebody else would encourage them to work or ask for help. Before each class we had a group meeting about where everyone was at and the amount of work we had or the goals for the day.
Areas for Growth:
On a personal level I was really challenged through being embarrassed about having to act in front of my classmates. It was sometimes hard to remember my lines and I would mess up but everyone was supportive about it. I started to get somewhat fed up about how long it would take just to film one scene and not having enough time to film the next part to it. I had to try to remember which clothes I had to bring back to school but a lot of the time I didn’t have the same clothes on and it would change mid scene. As a whole class I think the most challenging thing that we faced was having two groups and one group was writing the script while the other was doing costumes and set design. The group writing the script had to do their part first in order for the second group to be able to start to work. I think that this delayed the whole project about a week. If both groups worked on the scriptwriting and cast and settings we would have had more time to finish the movie. We collaborated with people all throughout this project. As a whole we worked together to find costumes and get information to the others in the group. Everyone had to know what was going on in order to all be able to participate. We also had to collaborate with other students in the school for extras or props and tips on how to use certain supplies. I collaborated with the other main character a lot because we had to learn our lines. We had to work together and act and learn together throughout the process without any experience.
Looking Forward:
If I were to do this project again I would want to be able to help write the script and come up with characters. I feel like as an actor it would have been more convenient as well. Half of us weren't communicating very well and if we had better planning for the beginning we could have achieved that. I would change the amount of time we had for much longer. I think it was very rushed and we didn't have enough time for editing and finishing filming. I like how we had a lot of freedom of what we wanted to choose to be the topic and the way we had our system was all of our own. We had to figure out how to do something major in a group and it was a really cool experience.
